The Lost Angel

Half a globe away, the Japanese have long been fascinated with Amercan culture. Today’s youth crave its edge: lowriders, tattoos, and the hip-hop, street-smart lifestyle. Embracing the hardcore gang culture of Los Angeles is a dangerous pastime for any Japanese kid. But Kenji is not satisfied with his sideline existence in Tokyo. He longs to visit the promised land, the mecca of poverty, violence, and custom cars, “the real deal”: Skid Row.

The hell of Los Angeles, Skid Row takes no prisoners and destroys lost souls. On the gritty streets of East LA, lowrider cars cruise the hood, drug addicts shoot up, and gunfights are a morning sport. It’s the kind of place that eats outsiders alive; the kind of place a wannabe player like Kenji could get into trouble, or killed.

When Kenji arrives in LA from Tokyo, seeking a piece of the action, he stumbles upon the chance of a lifetime. In one fate-packed minute, Kenji witnesses the murder of his idol, Tanaka, lowrider king of Japan, assumes his identity, and plunges into a high-stakes world of big money and a life of grave danger. Kenji’s survival depends on a mysterious guide: the Lost Angel, a reluctant hero who has paid the price of playing the streets. Before long, the Lost Angel must venture back into a sinister place he wanted to leave behind in order to save a beloved family member, to help Kenji, and right a serious wrong. Back to the action of his former days, the Lost Angel proves as powerful as his legacy. And it’s only the beginning.
